Deputy Director Workforce
Judy led the national NHS workforce review team for 7 years, extending its scope from an analytical organisation providing information and interpretation, to one engaging staff in the wider NHS to develop their capacity and capability in workforce development through consultancy and training.
Leading teams through tough times - She successfully led the review team through a prolonged period of uncertainty while continuing to recruit and retain staff, deliver the work programme and grow the business. She led a programme to identify £38.5m of savings from a health authority’s £250m MPET budget without reducing quality; while leading and supporting a team drawn from 4 former organisations who had neither defined roles nor a secure future in the organisation. She has led a hospital reprovision programme and reconfiguration of acute services.
Judy established and ran the public health talent management service for the south east region, supporting individuals and employers in recruiting, developing and retaining public health talent
Judy’s core discipline is public health. Her population perspective and search for the evidence base underpin her approach to all her work. She was a director of public health for 8 years.
supporting others to develop their leadership strengths. Judy was a member of Faculty for the Wessex deanery leadership programmes. She coaches senior leaders, service managers and junior doctors through the South Central coaching network, the Gateway Scheme and the Wessex support programme; also clients outside the NHS
Judy worked for PHE/UKHSA for 10 years until 2023 as deputy director workforce initially supporting public health workforce development in the South Region and then nationally. This included secondment as Head of School in London and KSS and to NHSE on public health workforce and network development
