Professional Appraisal

I am a very experienced appraiser and appraiser trainer. Over the last 10+ years I have appraised doctors from all specialties across the NHS as well as public health consultants, both GMC and UKPHR registered.


As importantly, I really enjoy appraisals.  I find the insights into your practice and how you deal with the challenges facing you absolutely fascinating.  It is very important to me that your appraisal is a positive, developmental experience for you.


I bring many other experiences to bear on my appraisal practice:


•    Coaching, mentoring and coaching supervision I am a trained coach, mentor and coach supervisor.  I led the development of the Public Health England’s coaching and mentoring service and pre- Covid was working to establish a mentoring scheme in Pakistan to support the implementation of Infectious Disease Surveillance and Response. I recently completed a return to work mentoring course through the NHS leadership academy. I have well-developed listening, questioning and facilitation skills.
•    Medical leadership I have a longstanding interest in medical leadership and in leadership development for anyone from a professional or technical background.  I have been a director of Public Health, an associate medical director in a large acute trust and led the national NHS workforce review team for 8 years.  I have a special interest in introverted leaders and co-published a toolkit:  www.introvertedleaders.co.uk.  
•    360 feedback I have been accredited by the NHS leadership academy to provide 360 feedback since 2010. 
•    Medical Education I have undertaken a range of educational roles including a stint as head of the School of Public Health in London/Kent/Surrey/Sussex.
•    Myers Briggs Step I and II– I am accredited in the use of both tools and may use insights from Myers Briggs in development conversations. 
•    Public health – My core discipline is public health.  I recently completed a diploma in Occupational Medicine which helped to refresh my knowledge across many specialties.
•    Managing work-life balance Over my career I have juggled leadership roles with raising 3 children and caring responsibilities and now combine work with being a hands-on grandmother of 6.
